A New Experience of Free Floating

If there is ever an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone when it comes to the music I listen to I will take it. I have been a fan of Lights for years. Every song, every album that she puts out never fails to surprise me and be a reminder of how brilliant she is as an artist. With that being said I will say I am not a big fan of EDM, dance, pop music. But that is what majority of Lights’ music is. Contradictory. I know. There is always room for me to be opened to new artist who work within different genres I do not typically listen to. And with Lights’ newest collaboration that is exactly what has happened.
Annihilation by i_o and Lights. A quintessential EDM song. I have never heard of i_o before. Once again Lights has introduced me to a new artist. This song starts off with Lights’ vocals accompanied with a soft synth. Then i_o’s voice comes on with the instrumentals slowly building up to a louder and faster beat. There back and forth vocals only build upon the intensity of the song. The overall pace of this song is what I would consider slow and smooth. But it pairs so well with both of their soft voices. This song does not feel like you are listening to a four minute song.
I do this thing when I listen to a song. I like to imagine myself in some kind of movie scene. When I listen to this song all I can think about is floating around in space freely with no care in the galaxy. In my mind it makes sense, but of course in reality as the song’s title infers floating in space without protection will literally destroy you. But again, I just imagine.
